Renowned Bollywood playback singer Sonu Nigam, celebrated for his evergreen melodies and soulful voice, enthralled music enthusiasts in Kathmandu with his debut live performance in Nepal. Hosted at the Hyatt Grounds in Boudha on the occasion of Christmas, the concert, titled “Sonu Nigam Live in Nepal”, was an unforgettable evening for fans of all generations.
The night began with Nigam performing the classic Nepali folk song “Ukali Orali Gardai”, instantly striking a chord with the audience. Known for his renditions of Nepali hits like “Yo Jindagile,” “Phoolko Dali Dalima,” and “Yo Mayale Hera Na,” Sonu Nigam shared his excitement about finally performing in Nepal, a moment he described as deeply fulfilling.
With a 21-member musical ensemble flown in from India, Nigam delivered a nearly 2.5-hour-long concert, blending Bollywood classics with Nepali songs. “Though I’ve sung Nepali songs in the past, this is the first time I’m performing them live in front of Nepali fans. Your love and energy inspire me deeply,” Nigam told the crowd.
A Journey Through Generations of Music
Sonu Nigam, who began his professional singing career as a child, revealed that 2024 marks his 47th year in music. “I have been fortunate to share my voice with people from all over the world, but being here in Nepal and performing for such a warm and vibrant audience is a unique joy,” he said.
The performance featured a mix of Nigam’s iconic Bollywood hits, including “Suraj Hua Maddham,” “Saathiya,” “Dil Duba,” and “Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin.” Songs like “Kal Ho Naa Ho” evoked an emotional response from the audience, with Nigam calling it one of the most significant tracks of his career.
Nigam also performed his more recent hit, “Mere Dholna Sun” from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, showcasing his ability to connect with both older and younger fans alike. The crowd, spanning all age groups, danced and sang along, creating a festive atmosphere at the venue.
