The controversy surrounding the first episode of the new season of “It’s My Show,” now hosted by Oshin Sitaula, continues to roil the Nepali film industry. The season opener, featuring popular actors Swastima Khadka and Samragyee RL Shah, sparked backlash after the guests made personal remarks about fellow actress Jassita Gurung. The fallout has only intensified with new developments and reactions from various industry figures.

Initial Fallout

Jassita Gurung, who was the subject of gossip during the episode, responded with a heartfelt social media post criticizing the ethics of discussing personal lives on national television. She expressed her dismay and questioned the behavior of her peers, emphasizing the negative impact such discussions can have on families and the community. Her post garnered widespread support from the industry, including actors like Anmol KC, Kabila Nepali, and Trishala Gurung, who expressed their solidarity in the comments.

Apologies from Swastima and Samragyee

Following Jassita’s post, Samragyee RL Shah offered a public apology, stating, “@jassitaaa I am never about putting anyone down let alone a woman… We were put in a spot in this rapid round question and we didn’t think of the consequences but by no means were we trying to bully you and I would like to apologize for hurting your feelings 🙏.” Swastima Khadka also issued an apology in the comments.

Rising Tensions and Accusations

Despite the apologies, tensions have escalated. Samragyee accused Jassita of deleting her apology comment to portray her negatively. She further alleged that Jassita was responsible for Anna Sharma’s removal from the movie project “Jerry on Top.” The producers of the movie countered this by attributing Anna’s ousting to her “unprofessional behavior.”

Oshin Sitaula’s Response

Oshin Sitaula, the new host of “It’s My Show,” finally broke her silence, addressing the issue on her Instagram story. She claimed to have spoken with Jassita in person and resolved the matter, thanking the audience for their criticism and support. However, this has not entirely quelled the public’s dissatisfaction with how the situation was handled.

Asmi Shrestha’s Involvement

Former Miss Nepal Asmi Shrestha, who was also mentioned during the controversial episode, shared her views on Instagram. She condemned the practice of discussing personal lives in interviews and called the remarks made about her untrue. As a current show host herself, Asmi initiated the hashtag #itsnotyourshow, criticizing the episode’s handling and expressing her disappointment.

Suraj Singh Thakuri’s Disappointment

Suraj Singh Thakuri, the previous host and producer of “It’s My Show,” expressed his dismay over the incident. In a heartfelt post, he clarified that he was no longer part of the show when the episode aired. He lamented the damage done to the brand he had built over 23 years, stating, “All I can say is that my 23 years of dedication, sincerity, and loyalty to my brand is demolished. As a face of a TV, I am hurt and would never want to be part of this content.”

Broader Discussion on Media Responsibility

The incident has ignited a broader discussion about the responsibility of public figures in the media and the impact of their words on personal lives. Many are calling for more thoughtful and respectful discourse within the industry, emphasizing the need for ethical standards in public interviews and discussions.

As the controversy continues to unfold, the industry watches closely to see how the involved parties will navigate the situation and what steps will be taken to address the fallout from the episode.
