Kathmandu, Dec 21 – The revered Druk Amitabha Mountain in Kathmandu is set to host the 10th Annual Drukpa Council (ADC) from December 28, 2024, to January 1, 2025. After a six-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, the ADC returns as a beacon of spiritual wisdom, gender empowerment, and environmental advocacy.
Themed “Rejoice: Connect and Aspire Beyond Boundaries,” this year’s ADC promises to be a transformative experience, offering participants an exceptional blend of spiritual teachings, cultural performances, and humanitarian dialogue.
Why the 10th ADC is Special
1. A Historic Comeback
The ADC’s return after six years is a moment of celebration, marking Nepal’s role as a hub of spirituality. Founded in 2009 by His Holiness Gyalwang Drukpa, the ADC was conceived as a unifying platform for the Drukpa Lineage, inspiring global unity and compassion.
2. The Kung Fu Nuns Take Center Stage
The award-winning Kung Fu Nuns of Druk Amitabha Mountain will lead the event, showcasing their extraordinary blend of tradition and activism. Known for their dedication to gender equality and environmentalism, the nuns have earned accolades like the UNESCO Martial Arts Education Prize (2021) and the Atlantic Council’s Unsung Heroes Award (2020).
These inspiring women, trained in self-defense and martial arts, will host and perform sacred drum rituals while delivering powerful talks on human trafficking prevention, environmental stewardship, and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
3. Trailblazing Women in Leadership
Venerable Jigme Yeshe Lhaskyi, co-leading the council, is the second Drukpa nun to hold such a role. Her leadership represents a historic step toward gender inclusivity in Buddhist traditions.
A Venue Rooted in History and Harmony
Druk Amitabha Mountain, home to the Kung Fu Nuns, offers a serene setting for the ADC. This will be the first time the monastery opens its doors to the public since the Pandemic, inviting global attendees to immerse themselves in its spiritual and natural beauty.
