Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organization WHO, met with the Minister of Health and Population Padam Giri, who led the Nepali delegation to Switzerland for the Fifth Global Ministerial Summit on Patient Safety 2023.
During the meeting, Minister Giri thanked the WHO for the support provided to Nepal’s health sector.
In particular, Minister Giri thanked Dr Ghebreyesus for his support in maternal and child health of Nepal, as well as in the control, prevention and eradication of various disasters, including the vaccination program, polio.
In the meeting, Minister Giri also expressed his gratitude for the role he played in the 2015 Earthquake, Cholera Epidemic, and providing the Covid Vaccine to Nepal.
Minister Giri said that the ongoing campaigns like non-communicable diseases and mental health and the immune system against biological drugs will be expanded and mutual cooperation will be coordinated.
During the meeting, issues of continuous support for building coordination centers of the World Health Organization and strengthening of national public health laboratories for health security and basic capacity building for the implementation of international health regulations were discussed.
