Nepal’s cricket landscape is set for a change as Utsav Dhungana takes the helm as the new General Manager of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).
The announcement was made through CAN’s social media channels this Monday, unveiling Dhungana as the successor to the position that had remained vacant for the past six months.
Dhungana’s selection followed a rigorous process that involved the evaluation of 68 applications. Out of this pool, only seven candidates were shortlisted for interviews, and Dhungana emerged as the final choice for the coveted role.
Currently, Dhungana serves as the Director of Baliyo Nepal Nutrition Initiative, an entity actively involved in sponsoring cricket and contributing to the grassroots development of Nepal Cricket.
The General Manager role had been unoccupied since the resignation of Britant Khanal in March 2022, who faced criticism alongside his predecessor, Raunak Malla, for perceived shortcomings in their respective one-year tenures.
Utsav Dhungana’s immediate focus as the newly appointed General Manager will be to actively pursue and secure significant sponsorships for CAN. The cricket community is optimistic about Dhungana’s potential to inject fresh energy and effective strategies into the administration, setting the stage for a positive turn in Nepal Cricket’s fortunes.
As Dhungana takes on this crucial role, anticipation is high among cricket enthusiasts and stakeholders, hoping for a transformative era under his leadership and a renewed chapter for the Cricket Association of Nepal.
