Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal made a commitment on Tuesday to move on with the reforms required for his country’s entry into the European Union (EU), according to the official press release.

“We’re going to keep moving forward with Ukraine’s change. We are drafting government decisions and laws,” Shmyhal stated at a cabinet meeting.

He expressed his approval of the European Commission’s proposal to begin membership talks with Ukraine, stating that this action would provide benefits in the medium and long run. According to Shmyhal, the changes demanded by the EU will strengthen Ukraine’s armed forces, aid in post-conflict rehabilitation, and boost its economy.

The European Commission has recommended the European Council to initiate accession negotiations with Ukraine, following its adoption of key measures as a EU candidate in June 2022.
