Two female rhinos were found dead with their horns removed in the eastern sector of Chitwan National Park CNP, approximately 3.5 kilometers southeast of Chaparchuli Post.

The CNP information officer, Ganesh Tiwari, confirmed that the rhinos, aged six and 18, were killed by poachers using trapping methods in ditches.

The younger rhino’s horn was cut, while the older one had its horn removed.

According to Tiwari, the six-year-old rhino was trapped about three days ago in a new ditch, and the 18-year-old fell victim to an old ditch around ten days ago.

Investigations were initiated promptly after the incident was reported on Thursday evening.

This year, five rhinos have died of natural causes, while last year, two rhinos were killed by poachers in the Amaltari area.

Conservationists stress the need for increased security measures and public awareness to address the ongoing threat of illegal wildlife activities in the region.
