The Association of Tamang Journalists’ two-day national assembly has concluded with huge fervor and fanfare.
The gathering, which began on Friday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Naxal, Kathmandu, came to a close on Saturday.
Bahadur Singh Lama, the province of Bagmati’s minister of economic affairs and planning, inaugurated the meeting.
Minister Lama opened the meeting by stating that the way the local and union governments had treated the province was improper.
Both governments, according to Minister Lama, are monitoring the provincial budget.
Minister Lama vowed to do everything in his power to assist the Tamang community. During the meeting, a magazine produced by the Association “Kalamjibi” was also released.
According to linguist Amrit Yonjan, if ‘Kalamjibi’ can be spoken constantly, a good record will be made in history.
The vice president of the International Tamang Council, Tashi Lama, underlined throughout the program that journalism should be used to confront Tamangs because they are underrepresented in every area of society.
Akshaya Kosh announcement of 1 Million Rupees
To recognize Tamang journalists who write about Tamang identity issues, the Association has created the “Tamang Journalist Akshay Kosh.”
Subash Yonjan, the Association’s Chairman, claimed that they had created Akshay Kosh, which cost one million rupees.
He claims that the six and fifty thousand have already been raised.
Prior to this, Akshaya Kosh had already received 350 thousand Rupees.
On Friday, an extra 3 hundred thousand Rupees were accepted.
Milan Lama, a key member of the Tamang Journalists Association, received 100,000 Rupees, along with cash contributions of 50,000 Rupees from Nepal Television General Manager Phulman Bal, Rs 50,000 from former TJA Chairman Jagatman Dong, 50,000 from advisor Lok Lama Gole of Society North America, and 43,000 from TJA founder Rabindra Tamang.
Bishnu Tamang, the former chairman of the Association, declared Rs. 25,000; Phulman Bal, the Chairman of Tamang Dajang; Ranjita Lama, the executive director of MMS Nepal; and Banshalal Tamang, the advisor of the Rural Municipality Federation 10,000 Rupees.
The Association’s founding Chairman, Rabindra, claimed that because the community is taxed as well, Akshay Kosh needs some assistance from the government.
Earlier, Lakyan Lama, the former chairman of the Tamang Society of North America, and businessman Kuyang Lama each contributed one hundred thousand Rupees, according to Nima Pakhrin, advisor to the Tamang Journalists’ Association.
The General Manager of Nepal Television, Phulman Bal, suggested raising the price of Akshaya Kosh from 1 Million rupees to Five Million rupees.
The Association has additionally planned to offer an annual ”Identified Tamang Journalism Writing Development (Fellowship)” of 50,000 Rupees from the Fund.
The Tamang Journalists’ Association will similarly honor two Tamang journalists under the “Tamang Media Award” and one under the “Dipendra Dong Memorial Journalism Award” for their contributions to the Tamang language and identity through media.
According to the Tamang Journalists Association, each of them will receive an award of 10,000 Rupees.
