Tragic Incident Claims Life of Korean National in Everest Region

A somber incident unfolded in the Everest region as a Korean national lost his life while traveling through the area. 

The deceased, identified as Hyun Cheol Song, a 47-year-old Korean man, met with an untimely demise on February 28 in Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality-4.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Shrestha reported that Hyunchal tragically fell while ascending the Island Peak mountain. The fatal fall occurred when he slipped off the road and plummeted approximately two meters, as confirmed by the police.

Following the accident, efforts were made to retrieve the deceased’s body. 

Deputy Superintendent of Police Shrestha stated that Hyunchal’s body was airlifted to Lukla and subsequently transported to Kathmandu Teaching Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

It was revealed that Hyunchal had embarked on his journey to Khumbu via the Atex corporation with the intention of mountain climbing. 

The unfortunate turn of events has left the Korean community and authorities deeply saddened by the loss of a fellow traveler.
