Three Arrested on Charges of Fraud in Foreign Employment Scheme

Kathmandu, January 6: Police have arrested three individuals on charges of defrauding people by luring them with promises of high-paying jobs abroad. The suspects allegedly took money from victims, promising to send them to various countries.

The arrested individuals are identified as 28-year-old Rakesh Kumar Rawat from Godaita Municipality-10 in Sarlahi, 33-year-old Dudharaj Thing from Roshi Rural Municipality-11 in Kavrepalanchok, and 34-year-old Prabha Shrestha from Tulsipur Sub-metropolitan City-5 in Dang.

A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, apprehended Rakesh on Friday in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9, Dudharaj in Mahalaxmi Municipality-9, Lalitpur, and Prabha in Lalitpur Metropolitan City-10 on Sunday, according to police.

Among the suspects, Rakesh allegedly defrauded a victim of NPR 645,000 by promising to send them to Mauritius. Dudharaj is accused of taking NPR 750,000 from a victim under the pretense of facilitating their employment in Canada. Similarly, Prabha is charged with collecting NPR 708,000 from a victim with the promise of employment in Singapore. All three suspects reportedly became unreachable after receiving the money.

Police stated that the arrests were made based on complaints filed by the victims. The suspects have been handed over to the Department of Foreign Employment, Taha Chal, for further investigation and legal action.
