In a dazzling spectacle of beauty and grace, Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua emerged triumphant as the 2023 Miss Universe, captivating the hearts of judges and audiences alike at the prestigious event held on Saturday night in El Salvador’s vibrant capital, San Salvador.

The crowning moment witnessed Anntonia Porsild of Thailand securing the first runner-up position, adding to the global celebration of diverse beauty.

Competing against representatives from 84 countries, the annual Miss Universe pageant showcased the talent and poise of women worldwide.

The judging panel, featuring luminaries such as model Halima Aden, “Queer Eye” star Carson Kressley, TikTok influencer Avani Gregg, and former Miss Universe winners Janelle Commissiong and Iris Mittenaere, added to the grandeur of the occasion.

The evening began with the announcement of twenty semi-finalists, chosen based on the results of the preliminary competition and a global fan vote.

The competition intensified through various rounds, including a swimsuit round that narrowed down the field to 10.

Notably, Miss Nepal and Miss Pakistan made historic appearances as the first “curvy” and the first to wear a burkini in the semi-finals, breaking barriers in the world of pageantry.

The evening gown round further narrowed the contestants, leading to a dramatic and engaging Q&A session that left three outstanding women in contention: Palacios, Porsild, and second runner-up Moraya Wilson of Australia.

In the final round, Palacios, radiating confidence, expressed her admiration for the 18th-century British philosopher and feminist Mary Wollstonecraft, highlighting the transformative opportunities she provided for women.

Palacios emphasized that there are no limitations for women today, echoing a message of empowerment and breaking boundaries.

The top five also included Miss Colombia, Camila Avella, and Miss Puerto Rico, Karla Guilfú. Athenea Pérez of Spain, a top 10 contestant, was crowned Miss Congeniality, adding a touch of warmth and camaraderie to the competition.

Palacios, with her crowning as Miss Universe 2023, succeeds the reigning queen R’Bonney Gabriel of the USA, marking the beginning of a new era for beauty, grace, and empowerment.
