Pokhara Set to Earn Title of ‘Tourism Capital’

Pokhara is poised to be officially recognized as the tourism capital of the country.

The declaration ceremony is scheduled for March 17, with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal expected to be in attendance. 

Kuman Singh Gurung, Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Tourism, Forest, and Environment of Gandaki Province, revealed that the announcement event will be jointly organized by the Gandaki Province government and Pokhara metropolitan city.

A colorful rally featuring various cultural processions will commence from Basundhara Park prior to the announcement. The declaration ceremony itself will take place at the banks of Fewa Lake, Barahighat, as per the organizers. Pokhara will be formally designated as the tourism capital through the unveiling of a special tourism capital marker.

To ensure the ceremony’s success, a main ceremony committee has been established under the coordination of the Mayor of Pokhara metropolitan city. This committee includes the Chief Secretary of Gandaki Province, all secretaries, chairpersons of rural municipalities in Kaski such as Rupa, Madi, Machhapuchchhre, Annapurna, as well as representatives from Phedikhola in Syangja, Suklagandaki in Tanahu, and Kushma and Modi in Parbat. Additionally, various tourism-related organizations are participating in the committee’s efforts.
