The opening ceremony of the Olympic Winter Games has begun in Beijing. The program has been classified into 15 segments, consisting of the athletes’ parade and the lighting of the Olympic flame.
With the ceremony beginning, the lights dimmed followed by a 24-second countdown. The opening day of the Winter Olympics 2022 has coincided with the “Beginning of Spring”, which is the first of the 24 solar terms of the year. It is used to count down the final seconds prior to the ceremony, that reflects the Chinese people’s understanding of time.
A pre-show performed by square dancers aged from five to over 70 years has started at the Bird’s Nest Stadium.
The “Square Dance” is a concept of ordinary Chinese people and has become very famous. On public squares in large or small towns, people randomly gather together to sing and dance joyfully in their off-time.
The choreographed presentation showcased the high interest of the Chinese people in welcoming the Olympic Winter Games.
