Nepali migrant worker dies in Portugal

A Nepali migrant has worker passed away after eight months of arriving in Portugal for foreign employment. 

Last Friday, 33-year-old Ganeshman Sarangkoti of Chandranagar in Khajura Rural Municipality-1 in Banke passed away peacefully. 

According to Rabin Adhikari, President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association NRNA of Portugal, Sarangkoti arrived home from work on Thursday evening and went to sleep before being discovered dead the following morning. 

The tragedy happened in the Portuguese city of Portimao. 

He had spent the last eight years away from home and was currently employed in a hotel in Portimao. 

He worked in Malta and Dubai before arriving in Portugal. 

His remains were kept in the Portimao hospital morgue. 

The required arrangements are being made to send his body to Nepal at the family’s request, according to Adhikari, chair of NRNA Portugal. 

To raise money to send the body to Nepal, a fundraising effort has been launched.
