The vibrant city of Pokhara has become the focal point of literary enthusiasts as the 11th edition of the Nepal Literature Festival commenced with much fanfare at Barahighat, Lakeside.

The event was inaugurated by the esteemed Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Surendraraj Pandey, who emphasized the festival’s pivotal role in enriching Pokhara’s cultural landscape.

In his inaugural address, Chief Minister Pandey underscored the significance of social solidarity and cultural diversity, emphasizing their integral role in shaping a culturally vibrant society. He expressed optimism that the Nepal Literature Festival would further enhance Pokhara’s reputation as a culturally rich city, especially as preparations are underway to designate it as a tourist destination.

Highlighting the symbiotic relationship between politics and literature, Pandey emphasized the transformative power of both domains in shaping society. He encouraged objective criticism from the literary community, recognizing literature as a potent medium for societal introspection and progress.

Organizers of the festival announced a diverse array of panel discussions covering topics ranging from arts, literature, music, education, politics, and economics. Experts from various fields are set to share their insights and critical perspectives, fostering intellectual discourse and creative exchange.

Following the inauguration, former Chief Justice Kalyan Shrestha delivered a keynote speech on ‘Constitution and Good Governance,’ wherein he underscored the imperative of progressive implementation and review of the constitution. Shrestha lamented the lack of willingness in decision-making processes and constitutional governance, advocating for proactive measures to ensure effective governance and uphold constitutional principles.
