The Nepalese government has officially announced its plans to host the eagerly anticipated Third Investment Summit on April 21-22 in Kathmandu, signaling a strategic move to attract foreign investments while simultaneously fostering domestic and non-resident Nepali community contributions.
Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, spearheading the preparations, revealed that the Summit aims to create an environment conducive to investment mobilization.
The Steering Committee, led by Finance Minister Mahat, convened its inaugural meeting today to kickstart preparations for the upcoming Summit.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, Minister Mahat emphasized that the event is not only focused on attracting foreign investments but also aims to encourage the mobilization of domestic investments. Additionally, he highlighted the role of Nepali embassies abroad in facilitating the success of the Summit.
Two crucial committees have been formed to oversee the preparation efforts: an Implementation Committee, led by the Chief Secretary, and a Technical Committee, led by the Secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies. The Summit’s Secretariat will be stationed at the Office of the Investment Board, ensuring streamlined coordination.
During the meeting, Minister Mahat directed concerned authorities to initiate preparations for identifying ‘projects of showcase’ that will be prominently featured during the Summit. This move is expected to showcase Nepal’s investment potential and opportunities to the global community.
As the government gears up for the Third Investment Summit, stakeholders anticipate a platform that not only attracts foreign investors but also promotes collaboration and engagement from domestic sources and the non-resident Nepali community. The Summit is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing Nepal’s economic landscape and fostering partnerships for sustainable development.
