The Nepal government is actively considering the prospect of sending skilled workers to South Korea via the E7 visa, specifically designed for individuals with technical expertise in particular fields.
South Korea, in collaboration with the private sector (B2B), is set to welcome these skilled workers.
The Ministry of Labor, Employment, and Social Security is leading discussions to maximize the number of Nepali workers availing the E7 visa, citing attractive wages and superior service facilities as key incentives. The ministry is gearing up for further deliberations, with plans to engage Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in the ongoing discussions.
Notably, South Korea has expressed a demand for an additional 10,000 skilled Nepalese workers annually through the E7 visa, signaling a robust collaboration between the two nations. The E7 visa, initially granted for a period of 3 years, can be extended up to 5 years in special cases.
Under this visa program, skilled workers are entitled to a minimum salary of approximately 4 lakh Nepali rupees, and employers are encouraged to provide comprehensive insurance coverage and other service facilities. This move aligns with South Korea’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for skilled workers, aiming to enhance the overall experience for foreign labor.
In a broader context, South Korea has demonstrated its commitment to the inclusion of technical professionals in its workforce since 2022. This encompasses an increased quota for migrant workers in technical fields, including roles such as welders and painters involved in ship construction.
The potential collaboration between Nepal and South Korea through the E7 visa not only opens up new avenues for skilled Nepali workers but also signifies a strategic partnership aimed at addressing the demand for expertise in key technical sectors.
