2023’s Nepal Africa Film Festival (NAFF) has concluded.
On July 8, the event began in the Rastriya Naachghar, a cultural initiative of Nepal in the nation’s capital.
The ‘best films’ were determined to be ‘Prakash’ from Nepal and ‘The Train of Salt and Sugar’ from Africa.
Similar to this, Ishi Hyamoha received the judge’s prize for the short film “Ya” in the African category, while Zimbabwe’s “Calling the Dead” got the prize for best documentary. Under the Nepali film competition, Bikas Subedi won the best screen writer award for the film ‘Prakash’, Alish Karki bagged the music award for the same film, Tej Giri the best male actor award for the film ‘Premgunj’, Nita Dhungana the best female actor award for the film ‘Bhagya’ and Roshan Kumar Shrestha the best director award for the same film.
The event was co-hosted by the Film Development Board and the Bilakshyan Creation and was coordinated by the College of Journalism and Mass Communication (CJMC). A total of 22 films, including 10 from Africa and 12 from Nepal, were chosen for showing.
Manju Mishra, the festival’s chairperson, claimed that this year’s NAFF edition has facilitated cultural contact between Nepal and Africa.
NAFF also included a day-long acting class and a panel discussion titled “National and International Market for Nepali Short Films,” according to festival director Dabbu Chhetri.
