Mt. Barunche has been fully cleaned up by the Nepali Army as part of their Clean Mountain Campaign, 2023.
Under the direction of Major Samir Bahadur Basnet, a group of eight members of the Nepali army and Sherpa guides removed about 3,050 kg of biodegradable trash from the Barunche base camp. The Mahakulung Rural Municipality received the garbage.
The team also hauled 15,470 kilograms of non-biodegradable debris to Kathmandu, where it was given to a waste management firm.
The cleaning of Mount Everest and Lhotse is currently ongoing, according to the Directorate of Public Relations and Information of the Nepali Army. The campaign will end on June 5, which is World Environment Day.
