The Melamchi water supply project, crucial for drinking water supply in Kathmandu Valley, will take four to five more years to complete.

The completion delay of the Project follows the need for the source to be moved up owing to the flood occurred two years ago.

The project, which started 22 years ago with the Asian Development Bank, has already spent about 60 billion rupees.

The Melamchi water supply project has a capacity of 170 million liters per day, however, due to the current daily water demand of 400 million liters, Kathmandu Valley Water Supply Limited is distributing only 100 million liters daily. The project is estimated to cost around 4 billion rupees to build a new spring.
