The measles infection spread in Banke’s Nepalgunj since first week of January is yet to be contained.

After spreading like an epidemic, the Ministry of Health and Population has started giving anti-measles vaccine and vitamin A capsules to children aged 6 months to 15 years along with the search and treatment of infected patients to control the outbreak of measles.

About 20 percent of the 110 patients are not vaccinated, while most of the remaining patients are already vaccinated.
Majority of people here do to and fro to India and there are chances that they might have missed the vaccination in the course.
Doctors say that eye blindness can also occur after measles is seen in children.
Doctors suggest that vaccination should be mandatory as complications such as diarrhea, ear infection, pneumonia, severe brain infection are also seen when measles appears.
In order to control the outbreak of measles after it spread as an epidemic, patients were searched in Nepalgunj and vitamin A was also administered along with the measles vaccine. The government has asked their children to be vaccinated against measles and rubella to protect them from measles.
