Lalita Niwas case update: Nine arrested so far

The police have so far arrested nine people in the case of land-grab case of Lalita Niwas in Baluwatar. 

The police are also investigating cases related to organized crime including forgey.

The police are investigating the allegation of buying and selling 114 acres of government land of Lalita Niwas in the name of individuals. They have so far received arrest warrants against 406 people from the court. 

Among them, four former secretaries are Deep Basnyat, Chabiraj Pant, Dineshhari Adhikari and Narayangopal Malego. 

The police said that after resuming the investigation last time, the nine people who were arrested were investigated and the deadline was extended. 

Police spokesperson Kuber Kadayat informed that arrest warrants have already been issued against all those who have been arrested and the arrests have been made after re-investigation. 

During the investigation, the police have taken into custody Sudhir Shah, the former Commissioner of the Election Commission, Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Dharma Prasad Gautam, the former head of the Dillibazar Goods Delivery Office, and others. 

The then joint secretary Kaladhar Deuja was released by the police after giving him a document that he would be present when called. 

After the arrest of some persons, including the owner of Bhatbhateni Supermarket, Min Bahadur Gurung, they filed a writ of Habeas Corpus in the Supreme Court, claiming that they were illegally detained. 

The police also filed a petition to vacate in the Supreme Court demanding that the interim order not be applied to organized crime. 

On Friday, the Supreme Court has ordered to inform the opposition within 24 hours about the petition and submit it to the bench. 

The police are investigating four cases in the case of embezzlement of 112 ropani 4 annas and 1 paisa land. 

Investigation is in progress on 4 cases of activities related to land embezzlement between 2049 and 2069 BS.
