The Kathmandu Police have issued a cautionary advisory to the general public, urging them to exercise vigilance against a rising wave of online payment frauds.

Authorities reveal that a group of fraudsters has been exploiting unsuspecting individuals under the guise of online goods delivery, leading to financial losses for numerous victims.

In a statement, Deputy Inspector General of Police Kuber Kadayat, the police spokesperson, disclosed that these fraudsters have managed to swindle thousands of rupees from the public through deceptive online delivery schemes. The police underscored the importance of caution and advised individuals not to make online payments without first confirming the legitimacy of the goods’ delivery they have ordered.

“In recent times, there has been a surge in complaints related to fraud, with scammers advertising goods on social media platforms. Victims are coerced into making advance payments, only to find their accounts blocked without any delivery of the promised goods,” stated DIG Kadayat. He emphasized the need for individuals engaging in online transactions to verify the official status of the relevant webpage or account before proceeding with any payment.

To combat the rising tide of online fraud, the police have called upon the public to report any suspicious activities to the Kathmandu Valley Crime Division in Minbhavan or their respective district police offices. The move aims to create awareness and prompt swift action against the perpetrators, ensuring the safety and security of online transactions for the citizens of Kathmandu.

As online transactions become increasingly prevalent, the Kathmandu Police’s advisory serves as a crucial reminder for individuals to exercise caution, adopt secure online practices, and report any fraudulent activities to law enforcement.
