Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, sons of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, were granted bail by an accountability court in Islamabad, as reported by ARY News on Thursday.
The court proceedings saw the two sons present themselves before Judge Nasir Javed. During the session, the court inquired about the number of cases against them, to which the attorney confirmed three cases, all with pleas seeking the suspension of arrest warrants.
The court granted bail to Hassan and Hussain Nawaz, requiring them to provide surety bonds totaling PKR 50,000.
Furthermore, the accountability court revoked the fugitive status of Nawaz Sharif’s sons in Panama referrals. Both Hassan and Hussain Nawaz returned to Pakistan earlier this week after a seven-year absence, being warmly welcomed by CM Punjab Maryam Nawaz and PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif upon their arrival at Jati Umra, according to ARY News.
Previously, on March 14, an accountability court had issued reserved verdicts, deferring permanent arrest orders for Hassan and Hussain Nawaz in the NAB References Avenfield, Flagship, and Al-Azizia cases.
The issuance of non-bailable arrest warrants for the brothers occurred on July 11, 2018, after they were declared absconders in the Avenfield reference case.
Despite being in London at the time, they were directed to attend the accountability court hearings, which aimed to conclude various graft-related matters, as per ARY News.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had earlier acquitted former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference case, providing significant relief for the PML-N.
