In a thrilling 1-1 draw against Liverpool, Manchester City’s prolific striker, Erling Haaland, made history by becoming the fastest player to reach 50 Premier League goals.
Haaland achieved this remarkable feat in just 48 league games, surpassing the previous record held by Andrew Cole, who took 65 games, and the legendary Alan Shearer, who achieved it in 66 matches.
Since joining City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, Haaland has consistently shattered records.
Last season, he netted 36 goals in the Premier League, the highest in a single campaign, surpassing the competition’s earlier 42-match format. Despite facing injury concerns ahead of the Liverpool clash, Haaland notched his 50th goal with a left-footed strike.
This season, Haaland has continued his scoring prowess, tallying 14 goals, four more than his closest competitor, Mohamed Salah.
His goal-scoring rate stands at an impressive 1.13 goals per game, with a league-high 43 shots, 67% of them on target.
Haaland’s dominance extends beyond the Premier League, as he leads in goals across the top five European leagues since last season. His 50 goals in 48 matches put him ahead of Harry Kane, who scored 48 goals in 50 matches.
Remarkably, Haaland’s first 50 Premier League goals showcase his predictability and effectiveness inside the box. Of these goals, only two were scored outside the penalty area, with 33 using his left foot, six with his right, and 10 with headers. Liverpool became the 20th team he scored against out of 21 opponents, with only Brentford managing to keep him at bay.
While Haaland’s scoring prowess continues to impress, Manchester City faced a setback, missing the chance to win every home league match in a calendar year. Pep Guardiola, despite dropping points, expressed pride in his team’s performance, and Jurgen Klopp acknowledged Liverpool’s success in securing a point at a challenging venue.
