In a heartwarming celebration of resilience and empowerment, the organization “Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra” hosted a book launching program in the afternoon of December 13, 2023.

The event took place at the Taragaun Cultural Center and Museum in Boudha, showcasing an inspiring collection of real-life stories authored by low-literate women, titled “Mann Ko Kalam,” meaning ‘heart’s pen.’

The event drew the attention of representatives from various national and international NGOs, along with other stakeholders who gathered to witness the unveiling of these extraordinary stories. The chief guest for the program was the esteemed Deputy Speaker, Indira Ranamagar, and the special guest was Dr. Tseten Yonjan. The Executive Director of Bikalpa Gyan Tatha Bikas Kendra, Stella Tamang, played a pivotal role in highlighting the significance of the occasion.

Addressing the audience, Stella Tamang expressed her joy at the women who poured their hearts into the book, sharing their struggles, highs and lows, pain, and triumphs. She emphasized that this initiative was just the beginning and encouraged the support of such endeavors. Ms. Tamang emphasized that even those who are not formally educated can contribute meaningfully, stating, “This is a starting point, and we need to encourage such initiatives. Even if they are not educated and merely literate, they can write, and it gives them immense confidence.”

The program provided a platform for one of the participants, a 72-year-old woman, to share her feelings of empowerment. She expressed the strength she gained by being able to pen down her life experiences and stories. Her testimony served as a testament to the transformative power of self-expression, regardless of one’s educational background.

Deputy Speaker Indira Ranamagar commended the women for taking this bold step in sharing their narratives. She acknowledged the significance of women’s participation in such initiatives and emphasized the need for equal involvement of men to witness and support these endeavors. Ranamagar stated, “It is amazing to see women taking these steps, but there should be equal participation of men to see this.”

The program concluded successfully, with a significant number of participants attending the event. The unveiling of “Mann Ko Kalam” not only highlighted the power of storytelling but also underscored the importance of providing a platform for marginalized voices, fostering empowerment and equality in the community.
