Electricity export slides up

Electricity export has gone up and imports slid down in the first six months of the current fiscal year, 2021/22. In the current fiscal year, electricity worth Rs 316 million was exported to India. The number saw an increase to Rs 805 million in six months of the current FY. Likewise, power import had climbed up to Rs 21.8 billion in the Fiscal Year 2020/21 from Rs 13.4 billion in the Fiscal Year 2019/20. However, the state imported power worth Rs 2.5 billion as of now in the current fiscal year. The budget to be utilized to import power could not go beyond Rs 10 billion throughout the current Fiscal, said Executive Director at Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Kulman Ghising. Power demand across the country has gone up by nearly 200 megawatts as compared to the last year. Almost 660 megawatts of power has been augmented. Likewise, in the six months of the current Fiscal, electricity leakage has seen a decrease to 14.45 percent from 17.18 percent in the previous Fiscal. The Authority aims to limit power leakage to 15.5 percent in the current Fiscal Year.
