The Lumbini Development Trust is set to operate electric buses connecting Devdaha and Ramgram to the birthplace of Lord Buddha in Lumbini. The initiative, which began as a pilot project on Poush 4, will now continue as a regular service, the Trust announced.

The buses aim to enhance services for pilgrims visiting the Greater Lumbini Area. Speaking about the project, Treasurer Dhundhiraj Bhattarai (Siddhicharan) of the Trust mentioned that the electric buses will run directly from Devdaha Shitalnagar through Manigram, Bhairahawa, Belahiya Airport, and onward to Lumbini.

The new routes will operate three days a week from Devdaha and three days from Ramgram, home to Buddha’s relics. The Trust currently provides this service free of charge, supported by donation boxes placed on the buses, Bhattarai added.

The initiative reflects the Trust’s commitment to collaborating with local governments, community organizations, and stakeholders to implement time-sensitive policies and realize the Lumbini program’s vision.

As part of this initiative, two of the five buses previously idle due to legal complications have been put into operation under the name “Dhamma Yatra” for testing purposes. The electric bus service is expected to improve accessibility for pilgrims while promoting eco-friendly transportation in this sacred region.
