Renowned ophthalmologist and humanitarian Prof. Dr. Sanduk Ruit was awarded the prestigious Shreepati Social Service National Award at an event in Pokhara. The award, instituted by the Shreepati Koirala Guthi, recognizes Dr. Ruit’s outstanding contributions to global healthcare and humanitarian services that have elevated Nepal’s reputation on the international stage.
The ceremony was held during the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Guthi at Mahendrapul, Pokhara Metropolis-9. Dr. Ruit, who is the Executive Director and founder of the Tilganga Eye Foundation, received the award from Ward-9 Chairperson Dipendra Marsani and others. The honor included a cash prize of Rs. 222,222, the Shreepati Social Service Medal, and a copper plaque.

The event also honored senior journalist Narayan Karki with the Social Journalism Award. Acknowledging his contributions to social service through impactful journalism, Karki was awarded Rs. 22,222, a shawl, and a letter of appreciation.

This year, the award’s six-member selection committee, led by Phanindra Raj Koirala, chose Dr. Ruit for his unparalleled humanitarian contributions, particularly in eye care.
