Beijing, October 17, 2023: The third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF) kicked off today with notable participation from Nepal, as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Home Affairs, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, attended the grand inauguration ceremony in Beijing.

Minister Shrestha, who was on an official visit to China at the friendly invitation of Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security, Wang Yi, represented the Nepalese government at the opening session of the BRF Summit. The event, held at Beijing’s auspicious venue, saw a diverse gathering of dignitaries and leaders from over 130 countries.

Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered the keynote address, acknowledging the significant achievements made in the last decade under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). President Xi highlighted the positive impact of the collaborative efforts and praised the success of various programs implemented within the framework of the BRI over the past ten years.

Among the distinguished attendees, Minister Shrestha shared the platform with China’s President Xi Jinping, addressing the gathering on Nepal’s perspective and commitment to the BRI. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Nepal’s dedication to fostering sustainable development, infrastructure connectivity, and mutual cooperation through the BRI framework.

The BRF Summit witnessed a warm welcome extended by China to representatives from over 130 countries, as leaders and heads of governments from various nations participated in the grand event. The vibrant atmosphere underscored the spirit of global collaboration and the shared vision of inclusive development.

Minister Shrestha, accompanied by Nepal’s Ambassador to China, Bishnu Pukar Shrestha, is expected to play a key role in discussions surrounding the “High-Level Forum on Green Development about Policies and Progress.” This program, scheduled to take place during the summit, aligns with Nepal’s commitment to sustainable development.

As the BRF Summit progresses, Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha’s active participation symbolizes Nepal’s dedication to strengthening ties with China and actively engaging in the global dialogue on infrastructure development, economic cooperation, and sustainable growth. The collaborative efforts showcased at the BRF Summit reaffirm Nepal’s commitment to the principles of the Belt and Road Initiative.
