The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared that Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City is no longer functioning as a hospital, citing constant gunfire and bombings in the area that have worsened the already critical circumstances.

In an update provided by the WHO, Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry reported that at least 2,300 people are still inside Al-Shifa.

Shocking images shared with an international media reveal at least 20 newborn babies being kept in a surgical theatre at the site.

Amidst the chaos, the Israeli military claims to have agreed to help evacuate babies from the hospital to a “safer” facility.

However, they deny allegations that Al-Shifa has lost power.

Israel’s President Isaac Herzog alleges that Hamas has its base underneath the building, a claim vehemently denied by Hamas.

The Israeli military asserts that it is not targeting the hospital during the ongoing conflict.

The situation escalated after Israel initiated strikes on Gaza following Hamas attacks on October 7, resulting in 1,200 casualties and more than 200 people taken hostage.

The Hamas-run health ministry reports over 11,000 people killed in Gaza since, with more than 4,500 being children.

The humanitarian crisis at Al-Shifa hospital underscores the urgent need for international intervention to ensure the safety of the civilians caught in the crossfire of the conflict.
