The long-awaited Shahid Smriti Stadium has been successfully completed in Bagmati Rural Municipality, Makawanpur. The project, which took six months, was realized with a funding of NPR 45 million from the municipality and additional in-kind labor contributions worth NPR 20 million.
According to Sarkesh Ghalan, Chairperson of Bagmati Rural Municipality, the project was a collaborative effort involving local residents, municipal employees, and social workers from nine wards, who volunteered their labor during public holidays over six months.
“This stadium stands as a testament to what can be achieved when people’s representatives and locals unite with determination,” Ghalan remarked. He also highlighted the municipality’s plans to establish a sports academy following the stadium’s completion, aiming to further bolster the region’s sporting infrastructure.
The completion of the stadium paves the way for the Bagmati Gold Cup National Football Tournament, scheduled to kick off on February 13. Previous editions of the tournament were hosted at the Janata Secondary School playground in Faparbari.
The new stadium is expected to play a significant role in promoting sports and fostering community spirit in the region.
