In the recent election held on December 24, Chandra Prasad Dhakal secured victory as the Chairperson of the Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Limited (NEFSCUN).
The 32nd Annual General Meeting and convention of the federation took place in Kathmandu on December 23-24, where Dhakal gathered 1,196 votes, surpassing his closest competitor, Paritosh Poudel, who received 1,019 votes.
Dhakal, known for his extensive experience in the cooperative field, will lead NEFSCUN, an umbrella organization representing savings and credit cooperatives nationwide. The newly elected office-bearers alongside Dhakal include Damodar Adhikari as senior vice-chair, Shanti Adhikari as women vice-chair, Ghanashyam Adhikari as general secretary, and Deepak Thapa as treasurer.
The board of directors features representatives from various categories and provinces. In the women’s category, elected members are Sita Dhakal Poudel, Mandira Mishra, and Kamala Devi Giri. Other elected members include Laxmi Sapkota (Koshi province), Shibha Kumari Raut (Madhes province), Khemraj Subedi (Bagmati province), Gopal Prasad Gautam (Gandaki province), Gyanu Poudel (Lumbini province), Bir Bahadur Raut Bhote (Karnali province), Dipti Shahi (Sudurpaschim province).
In the open category, board members include Devkumar Shrestha, Sushil Kumar Basnyat, and Shalikram Dhakal. Indraraj Jyoti Poudel has been elected as the coordinator of the Accounts Supervisory Committee, with Hem Raj Bista and Durga Tiwari Sanjel as committee members.
A notable participation of 2,200 delegates out of 2,633 marked the election, signifying the engagement of the cooperative community in selecting the new leadership for NEFSCUN.
