Masculinity has always been linked with being a macho man and rough-looking personality with no or less expression of emotions. The stereotypical definition of Masculinity distinguishes men who want to have flawless skin and look spectacular with their perfectly combed hair and exfoliated face to express them. Many men are bullied and called feminine derogatorily just because they are taking care of their outer appearance.

However, the scenario is changing. The socially constructed idea of a metrosexual male which revolves around masculinity is changing gradually. More than ever, men are growing interested in grooming and skincare. We can see not only the men in the entertainment industry looking out for their looks but also laymen, in general, are being interested in grooming products such as face wash, lip balm, exfoliating creams, and so on. 

However, there are very few men who actually confront that they use these grooming products because of the stigma attached to these products. Gradually, society has become more accepting of the idea that men can also look beautiful. Moreover, using makeup or grooming products doesn’t make one less masculine. Masculinity should be within yourself and you should be confident with whatever you are doing to achieve your satisfaction.

According to CNN, half of the men in the UK use facial skincare products as their daily routine and in South Korea, it is normal for men to use skincare products from a very early age. South Korea has the largest number of male skincare consumers in the world and it is increasing rapidly.

 In Nepal as well, we can see male celebrities who have started to maintain their skin adapting to light makeup. In addition, male grooming salons are also increasing simultaneously. Influenced by western culture, they have even started filling their closet with feminine-colored outfits like pink shirts, men’s jumpsuits among others. 

The one major difference between the older and new generations is the former dread change where the latter always seek something contrasting i.e. change. The idea of efforting to look good is not bad, in fact, better, as the general judgment starts from appearance. Change is also dubbed the improved version of the past. Today’s youngsters prefer coming out of their comfort zone and welcoming adventure in change.
