The routes particularly focus on leading to India and Bangladesh.

According to Sin Wai Chong, ADB Transport Specialist for South Asia, the project route is located along the East-West Highway, which is a section of the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) corridor.

According to the ADB, the project will increase road safety by include elements including intersections with traffic signals, sidewalks with streetlights and tactile paving surfaces, overhead pedestrian crossings, raised platforms at road crossings, and bus stations with lighting systems.

More funding will be made available to create guidelines for road projects, bid documents, performance indicators, and long-term performance-based maintenance that include climate change mitigation and adaptation, said ADB.
