A mobile camp organized by the Department of Passports, Kathmandu, and the Nepali Embassy in Spain has successfully processed 650 e-passport applications in Malta. The camp, held over five days, aimed to provide essential services to Nepalis residing in Malta, including passport renewals, replacements for lost or damaged passports, and new passports for children born in Malta.

The camp primarily served individuals with expired passports, those with less than a year remaining on their passports, as well as those who had lost or damaged their passports. Additionally, it offered new passports for Nepali children born in Malta.

According to Acting Ambassador Yagya Raj Poudyal, the mobile camp was a significant step in providing easy access to consular services for Nepalis in Malta, a country that does not have a dedicated Nepali embassy. Nearly 700 Nepalis utilized the service, and the camp successfully collected €78,000 (approximately NPR 11 million) in revenue, including fees for passport renewals, distribution, and document authentication.

“The mobile camp focused on providing priority services to Nepalis facing passport and documentation issues. It was a great convenience for those who no longer had to travel to Spain for these services,” said Ambassador Poudyal.

The mobile camp, which began on December 14, was supported by Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Malta and other local Nepali organizations, who coordinated the event. Embassy officials, including Vibin Chand and Vidur Khativda, were part of the team delivering consular services.

The success of this initiative underscores the embassy’s ongoing commitment to supporting Nepalis living abroad, especially in regions lacking direct diplomatic representation. This is the second such mobile camp organized by the embassy, following a similar service in Barcelona, Spain last month.

For Nepalis living abroad, the mobile consular service has been a welcome initiative, allowing them to access essential services locally.
